Dr. Richard Sherman is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in treating disorders of the knee, hip and shoulder, including sports injuries, trauma and the various forms of arthritis. He practices and is a Senior Partner at Illinois Bone & Joint Institute.
His father was a pediatrician, and seeing the difference he made in children’s lives and the satisfaction he took from it inspired Dr. Sherman to become a doctor himself.
Dr. Sherman graduated New Trier in 1973 and did his undergraduate at Harvard University where he earned a BS in Biology and played rugby. He completed medical school at the University of Chicago. After his residency, Dr. Sherman returned to the area to begin his practice in orthopedics. He and his wife Cheryl, have three children and three grandchildren, with another one on the way.
He has volunteered as New Trier's team physician and completed his 37th year with us. Dr. Sherman also is a clinical assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Loyola University Medical Center, training orthopedic surgery residents.
